Because We love to Look...

Designer gowns, beautiful celebrities, stunning hair and make-up - ah, the red carpet. Who doesn't prefer the "pre-game" show to the often boring awards shows themselves??!!

Most celebrities and/or their stylists make great choices and although they admit it takes them all day to get ready, feed our fantasies for elegance and glamour and encourage our curiousity to follow their lives.

I do find sometimes, as beautiful as the gown or the star may be, sometimes I think the dress is wearing the person instead of the way it's intended.

While it's a very pretty dress at the Golden Globes, it almost overwhelms Claire Danes slender frame. her look at the SAG awards is much more flattering.

Lupita Nyong'o seems to be able to always pull off lots of color and bold designs- not for everyone but wonderful on her!

Is it me or does the usually elegant Jennifer Aniston look frumpy here at the Globes? She surely changed it up at the SAG awards in vintage Dior-
flagrantly but glamorously sexy.

Keira Knightly looking like Little Bo Peep at the Golden Globes and a lovely, elegant pregnant actress at the SAGS

Some more misses-
Jemima Kirke in Rosie Assoulin. Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty ImagesIs this a gown or a costume?
and the color does nothing for                                                              Jemima Kirke's pale skin

Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli. Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty ImagesJulianna could use a bra and a sleeker look around the hips ( she's thin and this makes her look heavier in the hips)- though great color, she looks best in form fitting styles
Rashida Jones in Ungaro. Photo: Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesRashida Jones is too cute to wear                                                      this big dress that looks like curtains
Chrissy Teigen  Chrissy Teigen is usually spot on-
but this look is a little too flagrant and kind of a sexy bathrobe-
classy and sexy works better at the Globes below

Zoisa Mamet is young and fun and this dress is not! It's an unflattering color, frumpy and too much dress for her.

So the take-away is to get to know your body type, what flatters you most in style and color. Being confident and comfortable
are important also. When you feel good in your clothes you project confidence and confidence is beautiful. More- more fabric, more beading, more money- doesn't necessarily mean better.

One more red carpet to look forward to- the Emmys
You can be sure there'll always be some perfection and some
"what were they thinking?!!" moments. Share your thoughts...

On another note- this Stuart Weitzman "NUDIST" sandal
is the "it' shoe for Spring and summer. All the stars are wearing it for evening, cocktail, day dresses and even with jeans. You saw it on the red carpets in silver and red. It comes in many colors and if you can wear the 4 1/2 " heel -it is crazy sexy!

Sorry for the lengthy absence from writing. Am getting back to it with the awards shows
because it's fun for those of us who live in workout clothes or jeans and T's to critique the
celebs and their haute couture
If you could have any dress, which would it be?
If you could look like any star who would it be?
Next up for those of us living in the real world- Spring fashions
you'll want to update with this year.

The Oscars

Is it really about the movies? It's all about the FASHION!

There were lots of beautiful women ( and men) looking
fashionable Sunday night. Color was prominent, beading was big
glamour and elegance ruled over basic and black.

My hits and misses follow-

Emma Stone has been daring this awards season
This elegant beaded dress screams old Hollywood
glamour, in a great color for her and complimentary
   retro hairstyle and strong lip.

Sienna Miller in Oscar de la Renta by Peter Copping. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images
Sienna Miller is making her acting comeback
in American Sniper but she never left the fashion scene.
her truly original gown by Peter Copping ( at the reigns of
Oscar de la Renta) is a fabulous mix of silk and lace,
black and navy- a striking statement with her simple updo.

Rosamund Pike has had some major red carpet misses but this Givenchy Haute Couture gown is an indisputable hit. Everything from the color and flower-themed embroidery to the waist-whittling corset and minimalist matching sandals came together for a seriously sexy look. Natural makeup and simple jewelry kept it all form going overboard, no matter how high her thigh slit may be. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images
Rosamund Pike kind of rubs me the wrong way-
maybe it's her character Amy that I can't separate her from
or a sense of aloofness she conveys on the red carpet-
though when you hear her talk she seems  just
happy and excited about Gone Girl's success
and how much fun she's having with it. She's worn some
not so sensational dresses earlier this season, but this was
a home run in my opinion. it shows off her regained
figure in curvy, yet elegant way.

We expected a major red carpet moment from Lupita Nyong'o at the Oscars, especially after a few lackluster looks at recent award shows, and she totally delivered. This custom Calvin Klein gown was made from 6,000 individual pearls of different sizes. The fabric itself is commendable, but so is the expert tailoring and revealing back. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images
Lupita Nyong'o rarely disappoints since she first appeared on the
Red carpet. This astonishing Calvin Klein dress is no exception.
Maybe not for everyone- 6000 pearls in varying sizes must be very
heavy, the lines are so flattering and a wonderful color for her.

White emerged as a big trend this year (see Lupita) and Oscar winner Julianne Moore pulled it off in her own unusual way in this custom Chanel design. The strapless dress feels loose and easy, but still special thanks to shiny beading and tiers of abstract flowers. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images
Who doesn't love Julianne Moore? So happy to see her get the Oscar
but I didn't love this dress on her. Sure it's Chanel Haute couture and
the beading and jewels are incredible yet it didn't flatter her the way other
red carpet dresses have. She's much better in jewel tones with her coloring
and something more fitted to her figure like these dresses earlier this year

Loved Jennifer Lopez's dress but would it kill her to not wear something open to the waist?
What an investment she must have in fashion tape! Did you see Robert Duvall's wife had an
extremely similar dress on- wonder what JLO thought about that?
Dakota Johnson's dress was simple and elegant but didn't really do much for me-
(can't say I recommend the movie either)
