Tips for Summer Tops

 Summertime means it's time for tanks, halter and strapless tops. While perfect for summer heat, they can pose bra challenges. Halter and criss-cross bras can be difficult to find ( more below), but a good strapless meets most your needs, including the versatile convertible straps.

Strapless bras have come a long way from your prom or wedding dress and manufacturers have made them more supportive and more comfortable also. Like any bra, you should always wear it on the loosest hook when you first purchase and wear it. The band stretches over time and this way you can tighten the hooks to maintain a proper snug fit as you continue to wear the bra.

Here's some that won't pinch or slip on you-

                    Wacoal Red Carpet Convertible Strapless Bra

Smooth fabric covers the molded underwire cups of a convertible bra with very light foam padding to deliver natural shaping, support and no show-through. The removable straps can be worn conventionally, halter style or crossed in back. This meets a variety of different situations and is my personal choice and what I recommend most to friends and clients. It's often on Nordstrom's anniversary sale.

Wacol Halo lace Convertible Bra  

        This bandeau bra is wrapped in romantic lace and supported by medical-grade elastics to stay put. The brushed interior feels incredibly soft against your skin all day long, while intermittent slits along the binding allow you to place the removable straps where you need them, depending on your outfit. The bra is pretty and supportive but doesn't give you the same molded, shaping effect as the Red Carpet strapless. It does allow you to criss cross and halter the straps as needed like the previous one.                     

       Lively Smooth Strapless and No Wire Strapless 

Lively caught my eye with all their Instagram posts for their promises of all day comfort. The Smooth is a classic balconette shape with smooth cups ( hence the name:) like a t-shirt bra but with extra lift and hold that you need in a strapless. The No Wire offers flexible support without the wires. The no-slip strip at the top of the bra keeps it in place comfortably. You can bend it and roll it without it losing shape, which makes it great for packing. Both offer convertible straps. Lively is on a mission to give you minimal design with maximum comfort and support.  A strapless version of the pretty Natori Feathers bra provides comfortable support with smooth padding adding a boost to the plunging underwire cups. Silicone grippers ensure a no-slip fit, no matter how you arrange the removable, convertible straps. This bra has a lower,"plunging" center for your lower cut tops

They even have an online fit specialist to guide you through the best fit. However, I highly recommend an in person fitting for the best and most flattering fit for your bras. After being properly sized, you can find additional bras online. Most women are wearing the wrong size bra- too big band and too small cup. Also our breasts change with age and can change year to year enough to be re-fit. Nordstrom usually has excellent trained fitters in the lingerie department who will steer you to the most flattering fit.

Ready for Summer

 Spring is rolling into a warm summer. Life is different than last summer. We are going out more, traveling more and attending events. Yet, Covid is still around (and rampant some places), but we are learning to live with it.

Here'a some ideas to make summertime work for you- Mood boosting hues are everywhere. Looking to update and refresh ? Getting back to normal and to brighter days means saturated colors.Hot pink,neon and bright green,clean corals and orange, bright yellow, blue and turquoise. Minimalists don't need to worry because softer colors and new neutrals are out there also- think salted caramel, creams soft lilac, canary yellow, sky blue.

                                 

                                                            

Trends reflect more feminine tailoring- fitted waists, corset and bustier styles, ruffles and bows, This translates to strappy sundresses for most of us. Minis and maxis make summer statements and you will see them everywhere. Linen trousers, while always a summer staple, are fuller cut and higher waisted. Floral prints are sticking around in dresses and tops. Ankle length pants are great for work with a heel and wider, flowy styles are casual and fun. Flared jeans, especially in white look fresh this summer.

         
                      

         

    Mules are popular this summer. They go just as well with an office dress ( unless you are a banker:) as they do with jeans or sundress. Don't be afraid of white shoes- sandals, pumps or boots. Dolce Vita is a great source for a big variety of well -priced, comfortable mules, sandals and wedges. Anthropoligie and Neiman, as well as many of the small independent boutiques around town have good selections of fun mini and maxi dresses and skirts. Wear them for lunch or brunch with friends, out to nice casual dinners and on vacation. Pull them out again for a Caribbean or Mediterranean cruise. Don't be afraid to experiment with more color.
